Nottingham Post Newspaper Group  31/08/2005

The Nottingham Post newspaper group publishes the Evening Post and numerous other local and sports titles. Faced with the challenge of moving its live IT system to its new offices in just a weekend, the Nottingham Post needed to find a total solution provider with the expertise and hardware resources to capably manage the whole project.

Servo provided the solution
Servo installed a progressive infrastructure serving the voice, data and ISDN connection needs of 500 users, all as future proof as possible. The system was based on a 12 way cable system, with voice and data links and an ISDN optical fibre for broadband connectivity. In addition, Servo wired all security cameras and door entry systems, plus two video walls of nine screens and a wide screen plasma screen in reception. The combined voice and data installation was copper throughout. Nearly 2,000 outlets were provided on a flood wired basis, using a 12-way Belden Category 5 cable. The distribution system now supports 14 Compaq servers linked by Xylan Omni switches, whilst voice calls are handled by Mitel SX-7000 digital ISDN switch. Some 80 miles of cable are used for voice and data distribution to the desktop, using KRONE outlet plates. KRONE is Servo's supplier of choice for cable and accessories. The quality and 20 year guarantee help us meet the commitment to all our customers.

The benefits are clear
The new installation includes many key features - building-wide ISDN to the desk, video walls in two open plan work areas and an audio visual link to the IT system from a satellite data broadcasting receiver on the roof. A mere 36 hours after moving from its old office, the Nottingham Post had access to a second-to-none new infrastructure which worked perfectly, thanks to Servo's careful planning and project management skills.
