“Servo carried out an audit of both our business and IT systems. This enabled us to come up with a ballpark figure of how much the migration might cost. This was very useful because it shows that we expect to reduce the cost of supporting each user by 10 per cent over the next three years.”

A key measurement for Budget is a quick win to demonstrate an improvement so that other strategic changes such as a migration to active directory can effectively become a Trojan horse and get business sign off almost invisibly. A key metric for the business was to reduce the ‘first time fix’ of simple user problems (caused by either the technology or process issues). Servo helped Budget link this to the business case and establish the measurement criteria and improvements that a migration would give.

Budget and Servo have built a joint project implementation document which sets down who will do what, when and where. This will be used as part of the business case. Ian says: “At this stage, the business case will be built and presented to the board. It’s essential to be able to present a persuasive business case backed up by financials. And by using Servo for this, we can get on with our core job of maintaining the users.”
